Tshirts look great, enjoyed this one! We'll be getting a couple when you get them organised.
Are we at peak trail running from an event and race perspective? No...I think there's lots of room to squeeze. Trail running is still in its infant stage compared to other sports (and even endurance sports).
Will Backyard Ultras still be here in 5 years? I couldn't care less about BYU... maybe because I've never done one? This is a subset of trail/ultra that I think seems oversaturated.
Will we see the event industry collapse and a revival of the grassroots $50 races? If only...there is more and more money involved in the sport and everything will continue to get more expensive.
Will someone have finally Crushed The Cargrill? No.
I thought exact same about BYU’s as you, but then I gave M.A.S.H a try this year to support the event and loved it, for very different reasons to usual running events. I wouldn’t get deep into them like some do, but I’m gonna do one per year. Keep an open mind on them and give one a go, surprising amount of fun and some good Z2/endurance/fueling training benefits you can apply to main races.
Shirts look awesome. I’ll finally have a black tshirt to rival the 100s of heavy metal band ones my hubby has.
Re events the nerd in me will be interested to see if the change in Worksafe laws about responsibility to landowners will open up more grassroots events on private land.
Yea I'll be keen for a tshirt for sure. Any chance they'll be out before we hit Norway at the end of May? Be great to beam some skag pics out from the Arctic circle!
As for have we reached peak trail running? It feels to me like we were there a few years ago. A number of events are lately have folding up their operations, people are spending less and travelling less for events- localism is dominating more which I guess makes sense with the proliferation of BYU's. Which surely are peaking now too? I think the OG classic grassroots events will truck on, at lest I hope so anyway but being a race director is undoubtedly tough mahi, especially in the current climate.
Thanks for the bonus fritter, I was getting hungry.

Good to know, I suspected there was some magic I was missing by not being at one (yet)
