From The Bottom, To The ... Not So Bottom
First up is the Tararua Mountain Race on the 9th of March.
The overwhelming feedback I got at the end of the year was, “We want to hear more about you”, which I find odd. I’m a pretty boring dude😮.
So here we are, the internal ramblings of what I want to achieve this year. If you guys like this, I’ll continue to post updates about progress throughout the year.
2023 was a challenging year on a personal level.
Big life changes. Learning how to be a Dad.
Less running, more bath time.
As many of you know, it’s not something you can be “ready” for.
You know in your head it’s going to happen, but you can’t train to have a baby! (And yes, before someone points it out, I am aware that Dads do sweet F-A in comparison, and their internal organs remain in the same place.)
I also DNF’d the only race I entered (Tarawera Miler), which still stings🤬.
BUT I let the year get on top of me. I had weeks of no running.
Not because I couldn’t get out the door if I wanted to.
But because I couldn’t see the point if I didn’t have much time.
“If I can’t go for at least 45 minutes, what’s the point?”
My mindset created a surefire way to lose a lot of fitness. Once I had lost it, even if I had time to do what I wanted, it was a real ball ache cause now, I wasn’t fit enough to do it.
Add to that the worst ankle sprain I’ve ever had, and my running hit an all-time low.
I knew things had gotten bad when one of my friends tagged me in an ad looking for males who wanted to radically transform their “Dadbods” (Thanks Jub).
Then on, on the same day, a reader asked me what I get up to as I do f🤬ck all on Strava🤣.
That was enough—time to make a change. I’m not one for New Year’s Resolutions, but things aligned nicely.
So here you have my 2024 Bingo Card. On it are all the goals I have in my mind. I’m keeping things simple this year.
