On and on they go. Like it’s f🤬cking Mt.Kilamanjaro.
“But have you crushed the Cargill?”
“Have you qualified for Crush the Cargill?”
Wow, big deal. You’ve got a slightly large hill and can run up and down it a few times.
We get it. Come to Wellington. We’ve got tonnes of big hills.
I’m so sick of hearing about how tough Crush The Cargill is🤢.
That was until last month when things got very interesting.
I got a tip-off from someone in the Bay of Plenty that Mt. Cargill may not be all it seems.
I had heard rumors and rumblings from those who had ventured down from the North Island.
“It’s just not that big😲.”'
”It’s no more than a bit of a speed bump😔.”
”There’s no way it’s 675M😠.”
That’s when the email came through.
“CRUSH THE CARGILL IS A FRAUD”
.They sure knew how to catch my attention.
The email has 2 images—one of a map of Dunedin in 1979 and the other in 1989.
.
At first, I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking at.
Then it hit.
“1200 ft”
That’s only like … 300 odd m …
But how has this possibly been missed🤯?
I mean, it makes sense.
The human eye will tell you it looks shorter than the mighty Colonial Knob in Porirua or the climaxing Mt. Climie in Upper Hutt
BUT 365m? It needs to have the “Mt” dropped.
So how could this possibly have happened?
Either the surveyors miscalculated when they converted the new maps of Dunedin from FT to M or …
Maybe something more suspicious has taken place.
I replied to the tipoff email. After a couple of weeks, this showed up. A bank statement of Cliff Skeggs, the Mayor of Dunedin from 1977-1989.
I’m not saying that CTC paid Skeggs $635,011 to change the height of Mt.Cargill in the ’80s. But it sure is a big coincidence that there is a credit from a “CTC” for such a large amount around the time the height changed.
However, this was back in the 80s before Crush The Cargill had even been formed. But sometimes, you’ve got to play the long game, right?
If this is true - how could they rig the elevation profiles that come through on Strava? They clearly show a 570-odd m gain from Bethunes Gully.
Have you ever wondered if there may be more to the underground tunnels at Fort Taiaroa?
There is a secret storage chamber with a giant magnet🧲created to throw the Russian’s radar off if they ever invaded.
The magnet is so big that it interferes with the satellites and creates false readings.
I know this all sounds a bit farfetched. Like something out of Stranger Things. But if you have any more info, please send it to info@bluelake24hourchallenge.co.nz
