10 Quick Hitters with Kate Morrison
“Find your community, find your people and get into it. You won't regret it."
The new year is here, and the 2024 Trail Running Racing Calendar is underway. Someone who had a great 2023 was Kate Morrison.
Kate is a conservation ranger, part of the Kakariki Project, and a big-time mountain running addict.
She took down the inaugral Shotover VK(Vertical Kilometer) back in January, in a time of 1:09:14.
(A Vertical Kilometer race is an uphill race where you gain 1000m in less than 5KM of distance)
She loves a big climb, but the gurl has wheels too, finishing 2nd at The Routeburn Classic behind NZ Mountain Running teammate Maia Flint.
Kate ran in the “Up” event at the Mountain Running World Champs in Austria, taking on 1020M of vert over 7.2km.
It was a great experience for her to compete against some of the world's best over a short, steep course.
Kate continued on through Europe, post-world champs, racing in 3 VK events in 3 weeks, even competing in a casual double VK!
Oh, and did I mention she's an absolute BEAST? She took out the Beast double at The Wild, winning the Beast of Bethem and Beast of Brow.
Kate is a star on the rise, and I’m looking forward to seeing what 2024 brings.
